OptimizeXP

OptimizeXP comes in 4 different editions: Hardware, Network/Internet, Performance and Security. Each edition has a variety of tweaks and optimizations to keep your WindowsXP running at a high level of performance. Try each edition and see what you can do with your computer!

System Requirements:
  • Windows XP
  • Pentium II CPU
  • 64 MB RAM
Key Features of OptimizeXP :
  • Remove the Hand Icon for Shared Resources
Normally when you share a local resource on the network a hand icon is placed under the item to show it is shared. With this tweak you can remove the icon.
  • Increase the Speed of Browsing Remote Computers
When you browse a Windows 9x/Me machine from a Windows 2000/XP computer extra time is taken to determine if scheduled tasks are enabled on the destination computer.
  • Enable the Network Adapter Onboard Processor
If your network adapter has an onboard processor, designed to offload network processing from the system CPU, it is disabled by default. This setting allows you to enable it and increase the processing speed of your system.
  • Modify the Internet Auto-Dial Settings
Windows has the option to automatically dial your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to establish an Internet connection. This option can be controlled using this tweak.
  • Optimize Broadband Cable Modem and DSL Connections
Use these settings with your Cable Modem or DSL broadband Internet connection, to boost network throughput performance with Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
  • Disable Automatic Modem Connections at Startup
If remote connections are enabled in Windows, the system may try to initiate an Internet connection at Windows startup or at the start of many applications. This setting disables that behavior.
  • Modify the Number of Duplicate ACKs for Fast Retransmit
This parameter determines the number of duplicate ACKs that must be received for the same sequence number of sent data before "fast retransmit" is triggered to resend the segment that has been dropped in transit.
  • Detect Black Hole Routers During Path MTU Discovery
Specifies whether the stack will attempt to detect Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) routers that do not send back ICMP fragmentation-needed messages.
  • Enable Path MTU Discovery
Enabling the setting causes TCP to attempt to discover the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU or largest packet size) over the path to a remote host. By discovering the Path MTU and limiting TCP segments to this size, TCP can eliminate fragmentation at routers along the path that connect networks with different MTUs.
  • Specify System-wide TCP Receive Windows Size
The TcpWindowSize parameter can be used to set the receive window on a per-interface basis. This parameter can be used to set a global limit for the TCP window size on a system-wide basis.
  • Optimize Windows TCP/IP Data Retransmissions
This parameter controls the number of times TCP will retransmit an individual data segment (not connection request segments) before aborting the connection.
  • Specify the Default Time to Live for TCP/IP Packets
Specifies the default Time To Live (TTL) value set in the header of outgoing IP packets. The TTL determines the maximum amount of time an IP packet may live in the network without reaching its destination. It is effectively a limit on the number of routers an IP packet may pass through before being discarded.
  • Change the TIME_WAIT Timeout to Increase Connections
This setting determines the length of time that a connection will stay in the TIME_WAIT state before being closed. The default is 240 seconds which on a busy server will limit the maximum connections to around 200/sec. Reducing this setting will increase the maximum connection limit.
  • Optimize Windows TCP/IP Connection Retransmissions
This parameter determines the number of times TCP will retransmit a connect request (SYN) before aborting the attempt. The retransmission timeout is doubled with each successive retransmission in a given connect attempt.
  • Change the (MTU) Size for Dialup Modem Connection
This parameter specifies the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) for a network interface. By optimizing the MTU setting you can gain substantial network performance increases, especially when using dial-up modem connections.
  • Change the (MTU) Size for Ethernet, DSL and Cable
This parameter specifies the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) for a network interface. By optimizing the MTU setting you can gain substantial network performance increases, especially when using dial-up modem connections.
  • Change the (MTU) Size for PPPoE Broadband Connections
This parameter specifies the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) for a network interface. By optimizing the MTU setting you can gain substantial network performance increases, especially when using dial-up modem connections.
  • Control Network Adapter Responses to a WINS Query
In computers with multiple network adapters this setting specifies whether to send all IP addresses or only one IP address in response to a WINS query request.
  • Control Automatic DNS Server Cache Updates
This value disables that automatic cache updated from the DNS root servers. Useful when there is a problem with the root servers, or if you wish to completely control DNS updates.
  • Disable Automatic Search for Network Folders and Printers
This setting controls whether Windows should automatically attempt to locate available file shares and printers by crawling the local network.
  • Disable the Printer Server Browse Thread
When this option is enabled, the print spooler does not send shared printer information to other print servers.
